Gomma (“eraser”) removes the metadata from your files before you publish or send them: the GPS location of a photo, the phone model, the author’s name, the software used, the edit history of a document. It works with photos, PDFs, text documents, spreadsheets, presentations and audio. The work is done by mat2, free software.
- Keeps nothing: the file stays on the server only while it is cleaned, in memory, then it is deleted. No logs: no file names, no addresses.
- Removes metadata, not content: faces, number plates, writing and visible reflections stay. Look at the photo carefully before you publish it.
- The cleaned file is always called “file-pulito”: the original name can hold a date or a person’s name too.
If you are at high risk, do not upload your files to any server, this one included: run mat2 on your own computer, for example inside Tails, where it is already installed.
The tool itself is in Italian.
