Viavai is a free alternative to the ATC La Spezia app. It is not affiliated with ATC Esercizio: fares and rules may change, always check the ATC website.
- Tickets by SMS: type the fare code and the app prepares the official SMS; you send it yourself, from your messaging app.
- Stops, departures and routes offline, from the official timetables (Regione Liguria Open Data).
- Offline map of the province of La Spezia (OpenStreetMap), bundled with the app.
- ATC notices about diversions, suppressed stops and closures.
- Privacy: no account, trackers, analytics or Google services. Location is optional and read only once, only when you ask for it.
- Italian, English and Spanish.
Where to get it
- Web version: viavai.instabi.li. It runs in the browser; from the browser menu you can add it to your home screen.
- Android app (APK): download the latest version.

Installing the APK
Viavai is not on the Play Store: you install the APK file directly. It needs Android 8.0 or later.
- On your phone, open the latest version and, among the attached files, tap the one ending in .apk. Wait for the download to finish.
- Open the downloaded file, from the download notification or from the Downloads folder of the Files app.
- If Android blocks the installation, tap Settings in the prompt and enable Allow from this source for the browser or file manager you are using (usually Settings → Apps → Special access → Install unknown apps). Then go back.
- Tap Install. If Play Protect warns about an unknown app, choose to install anyway.
- Done: you can turn off the permission from step 3 again, the app doesn’t need it.
Updates: download the APK again from the latest version and install it over the old one. Your data is kept, because every version is signed with the same key.
Verification (optional): the release also has a .sha256 file with the APK fingerprint. On a computer, compute the fingerprint of the downloaded file with sha256sum (Linux) or shasum -a 256 (macOS): it must match.
